What Is Restylane?
Restylane is an injectable filler derived from hyaluronic acid, similar to Juvéderm. Hyaluronic acid is a natural moisturizing component found in your skin, joints, and eyes. Hyaluronic acid in your skin diminishes with age, which is partly responsible for the dulling and loss of elasticity due to aging. The hyaluronic acid used in Restylane is not derived from an animal source, making it less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and no allergy test is required before treatment.
Restylane is created with very small granules of hyaluronic acid, which has a gel-like consistency. Perlane is chemically the same as Restylane, but has larger granules. The granular texture is intended to improve the longevity of results, and because Restylane is soft, its small grains do not generally create any visible bumps. Restylane is also available with Lidocaine to decrease localized discomfort and swelling that some people experience.
